Having once thought he took his freedom for granted, C. Ivan Stoltzfus now is embarking on a cross-country trip from New Jersey to California to bring awareness to United States veterans. The 67-year-old auctioneer and retired farmer is 647 miles into his journey to raise awareness and a goal of attaining $1--million to support the Wounded Warrior Project. He's making the trip aboard his 1948 John Deere Model A tractor, towing a trailer that serves as his living quarters. Stoltzfus says the idea behind the journey was because he never served in the military and the older he got, he realized he took his freedom for granted. Stoltzfus has raised about $48,000 of his $1--million goal and should finish his journey after about three-and-a-half months of driving, one mile at a time.
