Starting July 8, shoppers who use their Ohio Direction Card when they buy fresh produce at the North End Farmers Market (NEFM) will be able to stretch their benefits.

The NEFM now offers a SNAP Match program that will double the value of Ohio Direction Card purchases at the North End Farmers Market. Direction Card shoppers can receive up to $20 extra to spend on fresh produce at each NEFM.

The NEFM is held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month, through October, at the United Steelworkers Hall, 376 W. Longview Avenue in Mansfield.

The market is open to the public and accepts cash as well as the Ohio Direction Card. The NEFM SNAP Match program is supported through a grant from the Fran and Warren Rupp Advised Fund of the Richland County Foundation.

The goals of the program include: encourage shoppers who receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits to eat healthy and buy locally grown foods, increase access to fresh produce in Mansfield’s North End, and increase opportunities for local farmers and market gardeners.

The NEFM is organized by the North End Community Improvement Collaborative, in partnership with the United Steelworkers Local 169, the North End Elder Program, and local producers. All of the produce is grown by our vendors right here in Richland County.

For more information about the SNAP Match program at the NEFM, contact Jean Taddie at NECIC 419-525-3101.

New Vendors Welcome: Vending at the NEFM is free. Those wishing to sell their homegrown or homemade items should contact Jean Taddie or Vickie Eichof at NECIC, 419- 525-3101 and/or download a vendor application at: http://www.necic-ohio.org/#23.
