BUCYRUS, OH - Twenty teams of students from across Ohio competed on June 12th-13th at the State Envirothon.

The State Envirothon was held in Pickaway County at Ohio Christian University. The top four teams from each of the five Area Envirothons across the state continue to the state competition. The competition ended with Wynford students winning 1st place in the wildlife testing station and 2nd overall.

The Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts describes the Envirothon as "an environmental high school competition designed to stimulate, reinforce and enhance interest in the environment and natural resources among high school students."

Students are tested on their knowledge of soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology and current environmental issues. In addition, the Envirothon encourages cooperative decision-making and team building. High School students across the state compete on the local level at one of the five Area Envirothons. The top four teams from each Area Envirothon go on to compete at the state competition held each year in June for the title of State Champion. The State Champion from Ohio will compete at the NCF Envirothon held annually in North America.

The Wynford team has perpetuated the successes of Wynford teams at the state level. Since 2007, the Envirothon Royals have earned numerous awards, just missing the top-place honors this year by a margin of 4 points.
