Earl Jacob Lang Sr. passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Lutheran Village.  Earl was born on February 28, 1917 to Raphael J. and Teresa R. (Brickner) Lang on a farm in New Riegel, Ohio.

In February, Earl celebrated his 100th birthday and had lived a full life filled with many fond memories.  As a young man, he worked on the family farm and farms of the neighbors.  He met the love of his life, Norma Pearl Funk, at a dance where he was playing guitar in the band.  He married Norma on June 15, 1939 and their love grew during 55 years of marriage together until Norma passed away on April 25, 1994. Earl's stubborn and ornery personality will be greatly missed by his family as they will now lack his guidance in making the correct decisions in their lives.

Earl retired from General Motors after 22 years of employment, and was previously employed at B & O Railroad for 17 years.  He worked part-time for fifty years at Smith Greenhouse, and this was his favorite job as he truly had a green thumb, and gardening was one of his favorite things to do.  Earl was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church where he was faithful to serve at the Saturday morning free breakfasts.  Everyone loved his cornmeal pancakes.  He has been a lifetime member of Eagles #2178. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and making and tasting his homemade wine.

He is survived by his children, Earl J. (Judy Lee) Lang Jr., Paul (Carol) Lang, Joyce Jenney (Bob Shafer), and Robert (Cathy) Lang; five grandchildren, Scott (Stacy) Lang, Steve (Laura) Lang, Heather (Mark) Frazer, Justin (Jennifer) Jenney and Chase Lang; eleven great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Viola Lang and Jean Decker.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Norma Lang; and two brothers, Marion and Marvin Lang; and a sister, Alma Steinbaugh.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue.  The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  He will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven, Ohio.  Honoring Earl's love and commitment to the Lord, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 322 Cleveland Avenue, Ashland, Ohio 44805.

Words of comfort may be expressed to the family at www.wappner.com
