Jerry Kohler, 73, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday evening, June 17, 2018, at his home. He was born December 3, 1944, in Wooster, Ohio, to the late Harry C. and Irene S. (Ryan) Kohler.

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1971 as a Captain. He earned his Bachelor degree from Ohio University. Hard work was second nature to Jerry and one of his favorite quotes "Every opportunity is hard work in disguise", reflected this sentiment perfectly. He valued education and a strong work ethic, traits he instilled in his family, and these allowed him to succeed in business and retire as President of Shafer Valve Company. His genuine concern for others was evident and he was very generous in sharing his time and talent. Jerry accepted people without judgment and received great joy from his volunteer work with hospice patients while he lived in Florida for many years.

In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing and boating. His favorite time, however, was spent in the company of his family. He loved being with his grandchildren and was always available for all his family. Jerry was loyal to his family and friends and set a wonderful example for them to treasure. He was a member of Linden Road Presbyterian Church.

Jerry is survived by two daughters, Natalie Ann (Andy) Bell of Ashland and Julie Denise (Bill) Harless of Mansfield; and three grandchildren, William Verlin Harless, Emma Ann Bell and Kara Nicole Bell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Kohler; and brother, Harry F. Kohler.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Tom Roepke will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for the benefit of a hospice organization.
