Mary L. Brook, age 84, resident of Ganges, died suddenly Wednesday, October 28, 2009 in MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital.

Born June 1, 1925 in Mansfield to Russell and Mabel (Brandt) Brook, she had been a Ganges area resident the majority of her life. Mary was a 1943 graduate of Shiloh High School and received her teaching degree from Ashland University. She had been a teacher and librarian with the Shelby School System for 30 years, retiring in 1989. After her retirement, she remained involved with the schools by attending the Whitney School retired teachers monthly meetings.

A lifelong member of Ganges Community Church, she was a Sunday School teacher and past treasurer. Mary enjoyed cooking for her church and family, traveling, reading her Bible, and spending time with her family and close friends.

Surviving are her niece, Jen Brook, whom she helped to raise; one brother, Ken Brook of Shelby; one sister, Doris (William) Fisher of Mt. Gilead, several nieces and nephews including Cherie (James) McGraw and Lynn Brook and other relatives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her special niece, Karen Brook and close friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Ganges Community Church. Pastor Joe Kunz, her pastor, will officiate with internment in Ganges Cemetery. Friends may call Friday at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM and 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the Jen Brook College Fund.
