MADISON TWP, OH - In a thrilling and high-scoring contest, the Mansfield Senior Tygers ran away with an 85-69 victory over the Madison Rams. From the opening tip, it was clear that the Tygers were on a mission to dominate, with explosive scoring from multiple players leading the way.
The first quarter saw Mansfield Senior quickly establish control. Kaylen Brooks knocked down a three-pointer early, giving the Tygers the edge, and the floodgates opened from there. A second triple stretched the lead to 14-3 as the Tygers couldn't miss from beyond the arc. D'Vontae Johnson added another three-pointer, further growing Mansfield Senior's lead. Despite Madison’s best efforts, the Rams struggled to match the Tygers' shooting prowess. By the time the first quarter came to a close, Mansfield Senior led 23-9.
In the second quarter, the Tygers continued to pile on the points. A smooth two-point shot pushed the score to 20-9, and Jaden Smith added a highlight-reel play off the backboard. The Tygers’ lead expanded to 25-9, with Rashad Reed Jr. chipping in another three-pointer, making it 28-9. Though Madison was fighting back with some outside shooting of their own, including a big three-pointer from Boone, they found themselves down 43-24 heading into halftime.
As the third quarter began, Mansfield Senior showed no signs of slowing down. Brooks connected on another three-pointer, and the Tygers dominated in transition, with a highlight reverse layup making it 50-24. Madison, however, refused to fold. The Rams kept battling, with a three-pointer from Gordon bringing them back within range at 50-27. But once again, the Tygers proved too much, as Justin McCraney drained a three-pointer to push the lead back to 27 points. By the time the quarter ended, Mansfield Senior led 70-40.
Despite the large deficit, Madison continued to fight in the final quarter, putting up 29 points, many from their younger players. Gordon hit another deep three, and Colton Adkins added a basket off a nice feed. The Rams’ efforts helped trim the lead, but Mansfield Senior’s dominance from the perimeter and strong finishing inside kept the game out of reach.
The Tygers capped off their stellar performance with a buzzer-beating three-pointer, adding the finishing touch to their 85-69 win. Brooks, who had been on fire all game, finished with an impressive 26 points, leading Mansfield Senior to their dominant victory.
