ONTARIO, OH - Ontario United Methodist Church, located at 3540 Park Ave. W., will begin its annual Vacation Bible School from June 3-7 from 6-8 p.m.
The program has run at the church since at least the 1950s, which is when the church's current historian attended the program. The name of this year's program is "Animals In God's Kingdom".
"It's about all kinds of animals that we have today and what they are in the Bible," said Interim Youth Group Leader Joni Davis. "We have a mammoth donkey coming, which looks more like a horse, I'm very excited about that. We have a young lady from Shelby coming over and she's 15 years old, and she's gonna bring her mammoth donkey for us. We have lambs coming, we have turtles, snakes, which I'm not too keen on but I know kids will like it, we have some underwater salamanders (axolotl), hermit crabs, all kinds of different animals are gonna be here."
The program will also feature puppet shows, music, crafts, and games.
"Our church is wheelchair accessible and I'm very excited about that because me being in a wheelchair, some of the churches aren't so accessible," said Davis. "Any children that are five to twelve, please come out. We will help you get around if you need it. We're very excited. We're reaching children from all areas, not just here in Ontario. We want to reach out to the Mansfield area, kids that normally don't come out this way we want to invite you, please come out to our church, and learn about Jesus and have lots of fun."
The church celebrated its 100-year anniversary in 2017. Anyone interested in volunteering or participating in the program can contact the church at 419-529-4345.
