MANSFIELD, OH - ReVision Lasik and Cataract Surgery is returning to full operations as COVID-19 orders and restrictions are lifted.
Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Action and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine passed an order postponing elective surgeries back in April. Since a majority of ReVision's surgeries are elective, this caused operations to almost come to a halt.
"We were dead in the water," said Dr. James Schumer of ReVision. "We had no idea how long this was going to last."
General operations were closed for more than five weeks, according to Dr. Schumer. More than thirty employees were furloughed during this time.
Emergency services were still available, but a majority of normal operations had to wait until the order was lifted.
ReVision has implemented measures in order to have patients feel comfortable and relaxed while receiving treatment. Such measures include regular sanitizing around the building.
"Safety is the new currency," Dr. Schumer stated. "Patients need to understand that if they come here they are not going to get sick."
Restrictions have started to lift, and ReVision has been returning to normal operations. Dr. Schumer states that the facility has full surgery schedules since, with more appointments with patients on the way.
The medical facility has started to bring back workers that were furloughed, as well as hiring a new medical professional in Dr. Thomas C. Litzinger.
Dr. Schumer wanted to remind residents to stay cautious until a vaccine for COVID-19 comes to light.
"We are going to get beyond this." Dr. Schumer explained. "It will take a vaccine for us to completely get beyond it... but that's coming. There are so many smart people and smart businesses and governments that are backing a vaccine that is going to be critical in fighting this."
