MANSFIELD, OH - The Mansfield Symphony Orchestra’s “Opening Night” concert on September 23, 2017 will feature a diverse program with programming for all tastes.

The Orchestra, under the helm of newly-appointed Maestro Octavio Más-Arocas, will perform Kodály’s Háry János, Stravinsky’s Firebird, as well as several Gershwin songs featuring local singers Condrea Webber, Maddie Beer, and Brian Hupp. All three singers have been prominently featured in multiple Renaissance musical theatre productions including Sister Act, White Christmas, among others.

Prior to the concert, storyteller and music historian Mark Sebastian Jordan will give a free “Symphony Chat” about the program in the Ballroom of the Renaissance Theatre beginning at 7 PM. Jordan will share stories about the composers lives, the context during which the pieces were composed, and highlight musical moments of interest in the pieces before the audience hears them performed by the Symphony Orchestra.

Más-Arocas said of the concert, “This concert has a very eclectic but also a very descriptive program, all about the storytelling. We’re playing two pieces that are about storytelling, the Firebird and Háry János, which are both based on tales, and then we’re matching that with eight Gershwin songs, and each one of those is telling a story.”

For tickets to Mansfield Symphony Orchestra’s Opening Night, visit the Renaissance Box Office, call (419)522-2726, or check online at MansfieldTickets.com. The Mansfield Symphony is presented as a part of the OhioHealth Symphony Series. Additional support is provided by the Ohio Arts Council.
