MANSFIELD, OH- The Humane Society of Richland County is excited to announce new educational outreach opportunities that will be available in 2018.

Executive Director Missy Houghton will be available to speak to civic organizations, employers, and schools about the organization's history and mission, as well as topics related to animal care and pet ownership.

"We think the new year is a fantastic time to expand our outreach to the community," said Missy Houghton, Executive Director,  "We know there are far too many cases of animal abandonment, neglect, and abuse occurring right here in our county. It's important to not only address those cases, but to also educate the community, as well as teaching the younger generation the responsibilities and joys of pet parenting."

Board President Linda Chambers agrees. "Pet ownership is (and should be) an enjoyable, fulfilling experience. Unfortunately, animal neglect, abuse, and abandonment continues to be a problem. We want to make sure that people have the opportunity to learn not only about our adoptable animals, but how to properly care for animals. It is our hope and intent that, through education, we can see a reduction of cases of animal cruelty."

Speaking engagements can be custom tailored to a variety of groups, and are available to all school-age children, with potential opportunities for hands-on interaction. To schedule a speaking engagement, or for additional information, please contact [email protected]

The Humane Society of Richland County is a 501c3 animal rescue organization located in Ontario, Ohio that handles approximately 1,000 cases of animal neglect, abuse, and abandonment annually.  It receives no government funding and operates solely through the generous donations of the community.
