GALION, OH - October first is the kick off for the fifth annual Socktober Fundraiser, a month-long charity event held by fifth grade students and staff at Galion Intermediate School.

Initially begun by fifth-grade teacher Paula Prince, Socktober has given students the opportunity to give back to their community by donating socks to needy families. Over the past four years, the school has collected over 2,400 pairs of socks. This year, students are taking initiative. They are decorating donation boxes and delivering them to each classroom to explain what Socktober is all about.

There are incentives for students to donate: those who donate one pair of socks can wear jeans on Fridays, and students who donate more than one pair can wear jeans and a shirt of their choice on up to four days in October.

"I am very proud of our students and staff at the Intermediate School for taking the time to help those in need in our community," said Galion Superintendent Jim Grubbs.

The fundraiser officially ends on October 31st.
