BUCYRUS, OH– The Bucyrus Elementary School will host its first Leader in Me luncheon of the 2017-2018 school year from 11:00 AM  to 12:00 PM on October 13.

Special guests for this quarterly luncheon are leaders from the small business community in Bucyrus.

The special guests will start the morning viewing a Leader in Me video about the Elementary School and its students. The “Theater Tribe” will perform a 7 Habits skit and the school’s Student Lighthouse team will give the special guests a tour of the building before lunch.

“We have chosen to invite owners of small businesses in Bucyrus because it is our hope that we are developing student leaders who will grow up to live, work, shop, bank, etc. in the Bucyrus community,” said Staff Lighthouse Team member Kim Haldeman. “To that end, we have invited representatives from a number of insurance agencies, restaurants, banks and retail stores.”

Students will also serve as greeters and servers in addition to being tour guides, performers and luncheon attendees. Students from the After-School Program are planning the placemats and table decorations.

“Luncheons serve as a way to showcase our growth as a Leader in Me school and offer our students opportunities to plan, implement, and lead,” said Haldeman. “These events also allow us to develop 21st century skills in our students and staff and give back to our community.”

Examples of small businesses in Bucyrus receiving invitations for this first luncheon include: Watt’s House of Insurance, Norton’s Flowers, Wink’s Lock and Safe and Brandy’s Beauty Salon just to name a few.

“Our Lighthouse Teams are doing an incredible job organizing this luncheon,” said Elementary Principal Timothy Souder. “We have every intention, over a period of time, to extend the Leadership Luncheon invitation to many of our community members that make Bucyrus a great place to build a business and grow a family. We look forward to having all our small business owners in Bucyrus visit with our students over the course of our Leadership Luncheon series.”

“We have seen tremendous growth in our students' abilities to converse with folks they have just met and show pride in our building through giving tours,” said Haldeman. “We’ve also witnessed, through these events, how the 7 Habits have made a positive impact on our students’ lives.”
