MANSFIELD, OH - The Mansfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was involved in a high-speed pursuit Saturday night on Interstate-71 northbound that encompassed three counties, beginning in Richland and traveling through Ashland and Medina counties.

The pursuit began around 7:25 p.m. at the U.S. Route 30 interchange in Richland County.

A trooper was monitoring speeds when a sports utility vehicle passed him at 95 miles per hour.

After activating the lights and siren of the cruiser in pursuit, the SUV climbed to speeds of 110 miles per hour.

After radioing he was in pursuit, troopers from Richland, Ashland, and Medina counties joined in.

Medina post troopers set stop sticks, which the SUV drove over and became disabled, striking a wire railing in the median.

Mansfield patrol post-Sgt. Jason Murfield said the SUV had four occupants during the pursuit.

No names have been released related to the three-county pursuit, which covered 36 miles.
