MANSFIELD, OH - With the announcement of the capture of Shawn Christy, authorities from the national, state and local level had another message to deliver: Thank you.

Throughout the manhunt, local residents and businesses have been dropping off water, food, and more in order to aid law enforcement while they searched for Shawn Christy.

Fresh towels and clean clothes were also delivered during a day where rain made the conditions tough for law enforcement. But with these items, they were able to head back out good as new.

"We would not have been able to sustain what we did, at the caliber that we did it, without the support of our community," U.S Marshal Anne Murphy said.

Mansfield Christian held a donation drive for food in order to supply law enforcement. Other organizations, such as WE ACT and the Police Wives of Ohio also made donations throughout the five day period.

Mansfield Police Chief Kenneth Coontz released the following statement to thank the community for their tremendous support:

We are very grateful to receive such support from our community-minded citizens. We are very fortunate to have a mutual respect and appreciation between our officers and our community members. The Mansfield community has been very good to our officers and we feel their support daily.

this community is amazing in that they provide us with moral support and physical support. we are continually getting cards in the mail and we are getting food dropped off at the police department and the officers are extremely grateful for that and we are very proud of our relationship with our community
- Chief Ken Coontz
Ontario Police Chief Tommy Hill also wanted to thank the community as well:
The Ontario Police Department thanks the community for their continual support. In times like these, it means so much to our officers to see the support of the community when they are tired and have put long hours in. Offering water and food and just to say thank you. Your safety is our mission we greatly value our citizens, Thank You.
- Chief Tom Hill

Richland County Sheriff J. Steve Sheldon also put out a word of thanks to the community.
The Richland County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the citizens of Richland County for their support during the manhunt for Shawn Christy. The officers received an outpouring of food, water, and supplies from private citizens, local restaurants and local businesses. Students made thank you cards and provided food and supplies for the officers as well. The generosity and support of our community is unmatched and we cannot thank you enough.
The citizens also helped officers involved by calling in tips, locking doors, and being aware of their surroundings. This enabled law enforcement to keep Christy confined to the area which resulted in his capture.
The Richland County Sheriff's Office would also like to thank the News Media for keeping the public abreast of the manhunt.
It is wonderful knowing we have the support of our community as we carry out our job of serving the citizens of Richland County.
Sincerely,
J. Steve Sheldon
Richland County Sheriff
