ASHLAND, OH The Ashland Post of the Highway Patrol made a traffic stop at the 187-mile marker for a speed violation around 11:30 pm, Friday night, the 7th of December.

According to scanner traffic, the Trooper said things weren’t adding up, and requested K-9 Handler Officer Eggeman, of the Ashland Police Division, to assist along with his K-9 “Luger.”

After Luger gave a positive alert on the car, Troopers conducted a search of the vehicle and found Oxycodone pills, Percocet pills, approximately $8,000 in cash, along with Marijuana.

The suspect was arrested and is being incarcerated in the Ashland County Jail. At the time of this posting the suspect was not identified by Law Enforcement.

Luger is one of the two K-9’s Ashland Police Division recently added to the force. “This is his first big find,” Officer Eggeman said. Once he indicated on the car, and we found all that cash and drugs, “I was happy because it validated Luger’s indication to narcotic odor.”

I reached out to Mayor Matt Miller, who was responsible for securing the donation of the Police Division’s two newest K-9’s. “Friday’s drug bust, once again proves the value of these canines. Not only do they protect our officers, but often the canine provides the officer at the scene with the probable cause that he needs to confirm his suspicions.”

Mayor Miller also commented about the individuals who donated, “We are so thankful that the City of Ashland has friends who are willing to donate the funds for both us and the sheriff’s department to expand the number of canine officers on our team.”
