The Ohio Air National Guard's 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield has a new tool to help its pilots and crews train and prepare for missions.

It's a C-130 flight simulator called the M-M-C-T, short for Multi-Mission Crew Trainer.

The 179th is the first Air Guard base to acquire the simulator.  It arrived in October.

Captain Kevin Loughrin says the simulator will save time and money by allowing pilots to prepare for flights without having to go through those procedures on the plane.

The flight simulator could be considered a sign the base, which had been in danger of being closed, has a long-term viability.

The simulator can also be used to train pilots and air crews at bases with C-130's across the country, by way of the internet.
