Galion Students Win Regional Honors In State Art Competition

GALION,OH- Two Galion High School students were selected as regional winners at the Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition. 

Skylar Beachy and Alexis Link had their artwork selected as regional winners in the District 2 judging at Ontario High School.

Beachy's artwork was a Marker drawing on Mylar, and Link's artwork was photography and mixed media drawing. 

"Skyler and Alexis did an outstanding job creating and preparing their artwork for judging." Linda Wilson, Galion High School Art teacher, said. "I am very proud of them for their dedication and hard work in creating their original pieces of art. 

Both students' artwork was entered in the state judging competition, but were not selected among the 300 for display in the Columbus exhibition. Thier artwork will be displayed in the 2017 Annual Regional High School Exhibition & Art Educations Exhibition at the Mansfield Art Center March 18th through April 16th.  

The Ohio Governers Youth Art Exhibition is the premier student art competition in the state where approximately 12,000 pieces of original artwork were entered at the regional level, from which 2,500 were selected to move on to the state judging.

    Kingwood Center staff unveiled the new Ohio Brass exhibit to the public, displaying a number of artifacts that were preserved from the company before it was bought by Hubbell Power Systems in 1978.
