YOUNGSTOWN, OH - A Youngstown State University student has started a petition to remove a student convicted of rape from the football team.

Ma'lik Richmond was convicted of raping a 16-year-old unconscious girl in Steubenville in 2012.

He later joined the school's football team after being released from a juvenile detention center.

As of Monday night, the petition received nearly 8,000 signatures.

The petition will be delivered to the head football coach and YSU's president.
