GALION, OH - The Galion City School District welcomes Mrs. Melisa Watters to their educational team.

Watters was recently hired as the new principal of Galion Primary School.

Mrs. Watters received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She then went on to earn her Master of Education in Educational Administration from Ashland University.

“My goal as building principal is to provide the leadership that will create a safe and nurturing learning environment for all stakeholders,” said Watters. “I strongly believe in taking the time to know students individually in order to help them reach their true potential.”

Previously, Mrs. Watters worked as the Elementary School Principal in Crestline. During her time there, she worked with the district’s Preschool program to help them earn the 5-star Step Up to Quality status. She also offered more after-school family activities which increased parent engagement in the school.

“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Watters to the Tiger Family,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “Melisa brings a wealth of knowledge and successful educational experience to our district, and I’m excited to see how she works with our staff, students, and families to continue the Primary School’s positive growth.”

The first day of school for Galion students and staff is Monday, August 21. There will be a Primary School Open House on Thursday, August 17 at 4:00 p.m. for preschool and kindergarten students, and it will continue from 4:45 to 6:00 p.m. for first and second-grade students.

Those with back-to-school questions for the Primary School are encouraged to call the building office at 419-468-4010.
