MANSFIELD, OH - The 179th Airlift Wing, along with Airmen of Springfield's 178th Airlift Wing, departed on Wednesday afternoon in order to help aid the first responders in Puerto Rico.

The 179th Airlift Wing sent one of its C-130H Hercules loaded with a DRMKT, or Disaster Relief Mobile Kitchen Trailer. The DRMKTs are designed to care for first responders in Puerto Rico by feeding them, keeping their energy up, and boosting morale.

The DRMKT will be able to provide prepared meals for up to a thousand people in under 90 minutes. Some of the meals are "boil-in-the-bag" while some may be closer to restaurant quality. The idea is to set up a system similar to a dining hall, where responders will be served.

Captain Evan Howard said the meals range from breakfast to dinner items. One may include, for example, scrambled eggs, potatoes, and pancakes while another may be spaghetti.

The Airmen do not know how long they will be in Puerto Rico. Captain Howard stated, "We don't know for sure right now, but we are going out there with the mindset that as long as they need us, we'll be there."
