UPDATE: Fatal Crash On I-71 Brings Traffic To A Standstill

MORROW COUNTY, OH - A fatal two-car crash near mile marker 157 on I-71 brought traffic to a standstill Wednesday night, backing up traffic for almost 10 miles.

According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7:30 p.m. One driver was killed in the crash, and the other was transported with serious injuries. 

A dispatcher with the Morrow County post of the State Highway Patrol was able to confirm that A 22-year-old Akron man driving a newer model Chrysler 200 struck a deer in the left lane, causing a loss of control after which he was struck by the second vehicle, a Chevy Cavalier. Both vehicles were traveling north. The Chevy Cavalier caught fire as a result and the driver, A 20-year-old Akron woman, was killed. The man sustained serious injuries and was transported. No passengers were present in either vehicle.

Traffic was backed up all the way to Exit 151 to OH-95 around 9:30 when the Highway Patrol opened one lane of traffic. Reports indicate that all three lanes of I-71 are open again.
