MANSFIELD, OH - In honor of Veterans Day and the 100th anniversary of World War I, the Mansfield-Richland County Public Library downtown is displaying the accurate scale model of Richland County's well-known historic 40-Et-8 military veterans boxcar through November.

It was built by the Computer-Aided Drafting class of 2014 at Mansfield Senior High School as a

class project.

Fred Falls say during World War I, U.S. troops were transported to the front lines in France on uncomfortable French Railway boxcars stenciled with the notation, "40 HOMMES, 8 CHEVAUX," which means 40 men, 8 Horses.

Falls says being a veteran, he's thankful Veteran's Day is celebrated and he's appreciative of the remembrance for all who have served.

Falls says at 10:50 a.m. this Saturday on the square in downtown Mansfield, the 40-Et-8 Boxcar will fire off 11 volleys, one per minute, to honor all veterans.

Immediately after the 11 volleys are fired, the Veterans Day ceremony will start at the gazebo around 11 a.m.

By the way, when the Veterans Military Boxcar is shut down for the winter months ahead, it is serviced by students involved in the Automotive Technology Program at Pioneer Career and Technology Center outside of Shelby.
