ONTARIO, OH - Humane Societies all over Ohio are banding together to help stop the prolific number of puppy mills that have popped up across the state. A public meeting was held on Thursday night at Ontario Public Library, in order to show what concerned citizens can do to help the cause.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a puppy mill is a large-scale, commercial dog-breeding facility where profit is given priority over the well-being of the animals themselves. These facilities are usually overcrowded with unsanitary conditions, making some or all of the animals sick while depriving them of socialization and adequate food and water needs.

"Stop Puppy Mills Ohio" plans to get the issue of puppy mills on a ballot for Ohioans to vote on, so facilities like those previously described can cease to exist. To volunteer, donate, or get in touch with Stop Puppy Mills Ohio, visit their website.
