BUCYRUS, OH – The holidays are a time of joy for many families, but for some, they are a time of sadness and struggle.

The Bucyrus Elementary School wants to help those in need this holiday season and is conducting a canned food drive to benefit the Salvation Army in Bucyrus.

“This was an initiative we undertook several years ago, and our students and staff donated more than 2,000 items,” said Timothy Souder, Elementary School Principal. “I think it is a tremendous display of compassion and caring for these young people for those who face difficult circumstances during the holidays.”

Salvation Army donation boxes are located throughout the Elementary School, and their goal is to collect at least 3,000 items.

Students, their families, and community members are encouraged to help in this effort by donating non-perishable canned and dry good items that will be distributed through the Salvation Army’s Christmas baskets and food pantry to needy families in our schools and community.

“This is a big goal for our students to achieve,” said Souder. “If past experience is any indication, our staff, students, their families and the Bucyrus community will exceed the 3,000 items.”

The canned food drive will end December 11. If you would like to help the Elementary School meet its goal, you can bring your donations to the main Elementary School office during normal school hours.
