TIRO, OH - A gun-wielding man was shot and killed by law enforcement officers after refusing to follow commands in an incident north of Tiro in Crawford County Monday night.

The Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney Matthew Crall in conjunction with Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent, Crawford County Coroner Chris Johson, and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation has identified the victim as 27-year-old Aaron Clifford Fike.

Monday night, an Ohio State Patrol trooper was northbound on Ohio 39 in Crawford County around 9:41 p.m. when he observed Fike walking along the roadway.

The trooper stopped Fike and determined he had a shotgun.

During the encounter, Fike fired one round at the trooper's patrol car and then fled on foot northbound into a field.

Assistance was requested and deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, Shelby Police Department, Richland County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

A sheriff's deputy spotted Fike in a field walking towards a residence on Lydell Road.

Fike did have a firearm in his possession and refused to follow commands and entered a home where he resided.

As officers pulled up in front of the residence, Fike came back outside, approaching the officers, refusing to obey commands, and pointed the firearm at the officers.

Fike was then shot by officers at the scene.

CPR was administered by officers but Fike succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

More information will be provided when available.
