BUCYRUS, OH– Bucyrus Middle School students Samantha Farrar and Kaitlyn Kuhn recently had artwork chosen for two separate state-level art exhibitions in Columbus.

Farrar, a seventh-grade student at Bucyrus Middle School, has her artwork exhibited in the 2018 Ohio Art Education Association’s (OAEA) Young People’s Art Exhibition through March 16. The exhibit represents Ohio students in grades kindergarten through eight and is on display at Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus.

“One hundred thirty pieces were selected for the juried show from the nine regions of the state that represent OAEA,” said Scott Mental, Middle School Art teacher. “This is an incredible honor for Samantha, her family, the Middle School and Bucyrus community because it shows the emphasis that is placed on the arts in the overall education of Bucyrus students.”

Kuhn, an eighth-grader at Bucyrus Middle School, had her artwork selected for display during the 2018 Ohio Art Education’s Association’s Youth Art Month Exhibition. The exhibition represents Ohio students in grades kindergarten through eight and is on display at the State Teachers Retirement Systems (STRS) building in Columbus through March 16.

“Kaitlyn’s artwork was one of 153 pieces selected for the juried show from the nine regions of the state that represent OAEA,” said Mental. “Her artwork’s selection, like Samantha’s, shows the strength of the arts program in the Bucyrus City School District.”

OAEA works to promote the arts and recognizes quality student art throughout the state through various exhibits at state and regional levels. Both the Young People’s Art Exhibition and the Youth Art Month Exhibition are possible thanks to many volunteer hours by art teachers in the state of Ohio.

Awards ceremonies and receptions were held at Rhodes Office Tower and STRS building for the young artists, their families and teachers Saturday, March 3. Both students will receive Commendations of Achievement from the Bucyrus City School District Board of Education during an upcoming regular monthly meeting.
