ASHLAND, OHAround 5 PM on Wednesday, March 8th, the Ashland Police Division's Detective Kim Mager, along with Officers Aaron Kline and James Coey, were the proud recipients of a check for the "Shop With A Cop" program.

Smiling from ear to ear, little Regg Rader presented a check to Officer Kline and Detective Mager for $2,137.00 from the Ashland County Community Foundation. Both Detective Mager and Officer Kline were nearly brought to tears when the little boy handed them the check.

“This check will go a long way into helping with programs for the Ashland youth,” Mager said.

The Regg S. Rader Memorial Donor Advised Fund began in late 2012, after the death of Regg Senior in early 2012. The Regg Rader Memorial Fund works with the Ashland County Community Foundation.

Their President, Dr. Lucille Ford & Jim Cutright, and a board of volunteer trustees see that money from the foundation gets to several different charities annually. Examples of several of those charities include the Ashland Family YMCA and the Ashland County Cancer Association.

Officer Kline, a friend of the family, said it "kind of went full circle" - the foundation started on the death of Regg Senior, and now has Regg’s grandson handing out the checks.

“They are a great family that just want to give back to their community,” Kline commented. “You just couldn’t ask for a nicer family and I just love them all. This means a lot to me. Brock asked me if I knew a great program that the foundation could sponsor, and I told him, ‘Yes, I do - 'Shop With A Cop'. I told him I thought it was an awesome idea.”

Detective Mager was similarly delighted.

“When you have somebody giving this amount, it just means so much,” Mager said. “When I was told that there would be a donation to 'Shop With A Cop', I was thinking of what part of the program to use it for or what the money could be spent on. When I saw the amount of the check, I thought, 'Wow'! This is so great. This amount of money will help several parts of the program all at once.”

The department thanked The Regg S. Rader Memorial Donor Advised Fund, Ashland County Community Foundation, Billie, Shaw, Brock, Amy, Rhodes, Sarah, Regg & Maverick Rader.
