Alzheimer's Patient Enters Not Guilty Plea In Death Of Wife

MANSFIELD, OH - A Mifflin Township man accused in the death of his wife entered a plea of not guilty in Mansfield Municipal Court. 

79-Year-Old Clyde Manley and his attorney entered the not guilty plea on Monday. A cash bond was also set at $1,000,000.

The Richland County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the death of 65-year-old Barbara Manley Monday, March 5th, after she was pronounced dead in her home at 1649 Frontier Trail in Mifflin Township at 6:12 P.M.

Richland County Sheriff's Office received the call at 5:40 P.M. Monday and called for help from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification on arrival. 

The investigation found that Manley, husband of the deceased, had killed her. He was arrested Friday and incarcerated at the Richland County Jail. 

No cause of death has been released at this time, but the 911 call revealed that the killer was elderly and suffer from Alzheimer's disease, which may have been a factor.  

The following is a press release sent out by the Richland County Sheriff's Office Friday afternoon.

"Clyde Manley, husband of Barbara Manley, was arrested today on a warrant for Murder in the death investigation of Barbara Manley who was found deceased on Monday, March 5, 2018. He was transported to the Richland County Jail and incarcerated. The Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification worked throughout the week collecting evidence from the Manley residence located at 1649 Frontier Trail in Mifflin Township, Richland County Ohio. The Richland County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy was performed on Wednesday. No further details will be released. Any further questions should be addressed to Richland County Prosecutor Gary Bishop."
