WATCH: Galion Man Leads U.S Marshals On High Speed Chase

MANSFIELD, OH - A Galion man lead a U.S Marshals team on a pursuit through I-71 on Wednesday. 

The U.S Marshal's Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) was attempting to locate Rudel Chatman of Galion, Ohio. Chatman had an outstanding warrant for armed robbery, a felony of the 1st degree, from an incident in Mansfield, Ohio. 

SOFAST officers located Chatman in the area of Cleveland Avenue and Case Road driving a vehicle. Chatman then proceeded to elude officers, which resulted in a high-speed pursuit. Chatman was driving in excess of 100 miles per hour. 

The pursuit eventually involved Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies on I-71 northbound. The chase ended on I-71 near Morrow County when Chatman crashed into another car. Chatman was then detained and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The individual hit by Chatman was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. 

Chatman was booked into the Deleware County Jail and then transported to the Richland County Jail early Thursday.

  • Woman Shot To Death, Man Arrested In Ashland

    A 40-year-old man was arrested in the shooting death of a 33-year- old woman at the Stony Creek Apartments in Ashland shortly early Monday morning. Ashland Police say officers were dispatched to apartment B at 230 Mathews Avenue at 1:49 a.m.. Police say residents were hearing gunshots coming from the inside of an adjacent apartment and the bullets were coming through the walls. As police officers and an Ashland County Sheriff's deputy entered the building, they heard gun hots coming from inside apartment A. The officers found the entry door barricaded so they provided cover as the occupants of apartment B evacuated, as well as the building's other residents. A cell phone dialogue was established with the 40-year-old man. At 3:49 a.m., he removed the barricade, exited the apartment unarmed, and was taken into custody. The body of the 33-year-old woman was located inside apartment A and a cause of death has not been determined, although she had a visible gunshot wound. The 40-year-old man is in custody at the Ashland County Jail but no charges have been filed as an investigation continues. Officers from the Ashland County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol provided perimeter security at the scene.
