LEXINGTON, OH - The Area 5 Special Olympic Spring Games were held Saturday, May 12th from 10:45 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Lexington High School.

Tom Hehmeyer, Coordinator for the Area 5 Special Olympics, said there were about ten different groups from six different counties represented at the event. Athletes participated in typical track and field events such as shot put, running, javelin throw, and long jump.

"Special Olympics, in general, is a great opportunity for these individuals to participate in athletic competition," said Hehmeyer. "Our Spring Game is usually one of our biggest events." Around 200 athletes came out for Saturday's games.

The games kicked off with a ceremony at 10:45 a.m. with the playing of the National Anthem.
