MANSFIELD, OH - A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Illinois Avenue and Mansfield-Lucas Road had emergency crews working to extract people from the wreckage and sent several people to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 4 PM, emergency services responded to the scene of the crash to find a black Chevrolet Equinox and a maroon-colored Ford Escape blocking the roadway with the Escape rolled onto its passenger side. Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Jason Murfield explained the accident occurred when the vehicles collided as they were turning. It is currently unknown which direction the black Equinox was traveling, but the maroon Escape was traveling eastbound on Cook Road before the crash.

Ambulance crews transported the occupants of the Equinox to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital with minor injuries. The occupants of the Escape were entrapped in the vehicle, forcing responders to cut the roof of the vehicle away before extracting them and transporting them to the hospital.

The Equinox had heavy damage to its front left side and the Escape was totaled due to the severity of the accident, coupled with first responders removing pieces of the vehicle.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mansfield Post led the investigation while Madison Fire and Rescue and the Mifflin Fire Department worked to rescue those involved. Terry's Towing hauled the wreckage away.

This accident is still under investigation. Stay tuned to WMFD for more details.
