MANSFIELD, OH- On Saturday Rinehardt Law Firm partnered with Mid-Ohio Youth Mentoring to bring school supplies and a day of fun to the community.

Around 100 backpacks loaded with school supplies were passed out to children in need. Kids received everything from a pencil box, folders, and glue to calculators and binders for the older kids.

There was also free popcorn and ice cream sundaes, face painting, inflatables, and "moon sand" crafts. Kids could even put together an "emergency kit" for their teachers containing items such as Advil, mints, and earplugs.

John Rinehardt, founder of Rinehardt Law Firm says, "We really admire what the Youth Mentoring folks are doing, and recognize that as we get busy with our lives and work--sometimes we forget that we're part of a community. And this is a cool community--we look out for each other, we take care of each other, and so this was an opportunity for us to pitch in with Mid-Ohio Youth Mentoring, and do something for families that are in need. And what better way to do that than to give a kid a good start on their first day of school."

Mid-Ohio Youth Mentoring, formerly known as Big Brothers Big Sisters, pairs children who have some sort of need with a responsible, trained mentor who will spend time with them, help them with anything they are struggling with, and be a positive role model for them.

Executive Director of Mid-Ohio Youth Mentoring, Jim Nicholson, says the program has been very beneficial for the children involved. "The kids in our program show improvements across the board. Some of our outcome surveys show that kids in our program are more likely to graduate school, they do better academically, they have better relationships with their peers, better relationships with their families, they improve their self-confidence, and improvements in avoiding substance abuse and delinquency. So it's just a great thing for them to have--just another adult in their life that they can look to for advice, guidance, and support," Nicholson explained.

Mid-Ohio Youth Mentoring serves Richland, Crawford, and Ashland Counties. To get involved, sign up a child, or learn more visit midohioyouthmentoring.com or call 419-525-4618.
