MANSFIELD, OH - The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging teamed up with pharmacy retail chain Walgreens to help provide consumers with informative pamphlets and guides on how to prevent trips and falls in senior citizens.

"We are helping educate the community and older adults about falls prevention and the role that a pharmacist can play," said Beverley Laubert, the Director for the Ohio Department of Aging. "For example, in evaluating medications, determining whether medications could contribute to falls, and just creating partnerships in the community between the pharmacy and the Area Agency on Aging."

"Every year, three million seniors go to emergency rooms for visits based on these trips and falls," said Paul Privara, Store Manager at Walgreens. "The more educating we can do and talk to these people inside the store, outside of the store, it's going to save them. It's going to save their health. As a healthcare destination, it's extremely important to us that they have prolonged health. The Area Agency on Aging has that same goal, so us being able to work with them in this partnership - it's been a big benefit for both of us. We get to reach a lot more seniors, which keeps those seniors safe. That's what both of our goals are."

The Area Agency on Aging has several upcoming wellness workshops in August and September. For a full list of dates and locations, visit
