RICHLAND COUNTY, OH - The Richland County Fair is home to a number of County Fair staples: fried foods, animal competitions, and games. However, fairgoers might see something a little out of the ordinary during their visit as the Richland County Sheriff's Office Mounted Division patrols the fairgrounds.

"The Mounted Unit has been in effect since the 1960's," said Sergeant Pat Britt of the Richland County Sheriff's Office. "It was re-organized in 1990. I have been a member since 1994. It is an all-volunteer group. We own our own horses and our tack. The Mounted Unit gets donations that help us supply the special Mounted Tack for our horses. The Sheriff's Office is very good about helping us out with radios, helmets, and things like that if we need those for our members."

The Mounted Unit specifically helps the Sheriff's Office with special events, such as concerts, festivals, and of course, the county fair. The unit is looking to expand its ranks and is currently seeking applicants.

"Currently, we have 15 members," Sgt. Britt said. "We're looking for, basically, horse people. You need to have a horse or have access to a horse, and you need to have a way to get your horse to events."

Interested parties are advised to get in touch with the Richland County Sheriff's Office and contact Sergeant Pat Britt for more information.
