Opera In Parks; IT Comes To Ren; Ready for Blueberry Fest?

MANSFIELD, OH - Mid Ohio Opera presents live opera acts and scenes with professional vocalists at several Ohio parks this month. 

The Opera tour will showcase Giuseppe Verdi's The Masked Ball otherwise entitled "Un Ballo In Maschera".  

Performances are scheduled at Mansfield's Liberty Park August 10th at 7 p.m., August 12th at McConnell Arts Center in Worthington at 3 p.m., Wooster's First Presbyterian Church on August 17th at 7 p.m. and Sunday, August 19th at Kingwood Gardens with a show at 7 p.m.

An additional performance was added at the Mansfield Art Center next Wednesday, August 15th, at 7 p.m. with no charge for admittance.

Performances are free but in the case of Kingwood Gardens, there is a $5 fee at the gate. 

Bring your own lawn seats.


Mansfield will recognize law enforcement officers and the men and women in blue at the annual Richland County Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at O'Charley's Restaurant in Ontario on August 14th. 

Elected officials will be on hand to salute local law enforcement officers from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Family-friendly events will also include K-9 demonstrations, a car, truck and motorcycle cruise-in, informational displays, and multiple enforcement vehicles on display.


The Stephen King Horror Festival at the Renaissance Theatre continues with the showing of the newest version of "IT" August 16th.

Guest speaker Dr. Mary Findley, a full-time professor from Vermont Tech, will speak at 6:30 p.m. before the movie kickoff at 7 p.m. and will speak on our attraction to horror movies, dark literature and our fascination with the macabre.

The remaining films in the series include the showing of Carrie - October 18th, The Mist - November 15th and The Shining on December 13th. 


One of the later summer festivals opens next week for several days, August 16th through the 19th, and has one theme and one theme only - BLUEBERRIES!

The Blueberry Festival brings family-themed activities and entertainment to the Lex community each year with noteworthy bands and top notch entertainment.

The festival will offer rides and food and gaming vendors, locally made crafts and a grand variety of blueberry foods from jellies to pies. 

Don't miss the Blueberry 5K, Miss Blueberry Pageants, Car, Truck and Bike show and of course an awesome spectacle of fireworks to cap off Saturday night.
