Patrol Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash Near Nankin

ASHLAND COUNTY, OH - The Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on October 3rd, 2018 at approximately 19:29 P.M.

The crash occurred in Ashland County on State Route 58, near Township Road 782, approximately two miles north of Nankin, OH.

Bryan E. Schoonover, 53 years old, of Ashland, OH, was southbound on State Route 58. He was operating a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Schoonover struck a deer that was attempting to cross the roadway. Mr. Schoonover was ejected from the motorcycle after impact with the deer.

Bryan Schoonover was transported to Ashland Samaritan Hospital, before being transported via Med-Flight to Akron City Hospital in Akron, OH. Schoonover passed away due to his injuries. 

Drugs and alcohol factors are unknown at this time.

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Nankin Fire/EMS assisted at the scene. State Route 58 was shut down for approximately 60 minutes.

The crash remains under investigation.
