MANSFIELD, OH - Thursday evening a crowd gathered on Ohio State University Mansfield's campus to hold a candlelight vigil in honor of victims of domestic violence.

Hosted by the Domestic Violence Shelter of Richland County, the vigil was held to support survivors, grieve loved ones who were lost, and to bring awareness to the community. After a few short speeches given by survivors, names were read aloud from a list of Richland County residents who have lost their lives to domestic violence. After each name was read a purple carnation was laid among the candles in remembrance.

"We basically depend on donations. We supply everything, it costs nothing to stay at the shelter," said Jill Donnenwirth, the Outreach Manager for the Domestic Violence Shelter of Richland County. She explained what people can do if they want to help the shelter help survivors: "So if you want to do drives, maybe food goods, toiletries, paper towels, anything you use in your house... gently used clothing... you have to remember we shelter, men, women, children, gay, lesbian, transgender, LGBTQ... nobody deserves to be a victim."
