SHELBY, OH - Marvin Memorial Library teamed up with the METRICH task force on Thursday evening for a community Drug Awareness program. According to Adult Program Coordinator Shelly Krystofik, the program was an idea she got from several conferences she visited.

"I've been to library conferences and workshops," Krystofik said. "They all say that libraries should be a place of communication for the public and have people come in and educate them as well. I wanted to make that available for the public."

Two METRICH officers spoke to a small group that had gathered on how to be drug-free advocates, the effects of drugs in small communities, and awareness on the ever-present dangers of overdoses and how to react to them. The Drug Awareness Program is part of a larger series of events aimed at giving the community the tools to better their surroundings.

"It's leading up," Krystofik said. "We're having a health fair on Saturday (November 3rd, 2018) from 10 AM to noon here at the library with multiple businesses and healthcare professionals."

Marvin Memorial Library is located at 29 West Whitney Avenue in Shelby and is open from 9 AM through 8 PM.
