SHELBY, OH - Voters struck down a "One District, One Campus" bond issue for Shelby City Schools on Tuesday, with the number of votes in favor of the bond issue at 2,323 and the number of votes opposing the bond issue at 2,780.

The bond issue would have consolidated all of the students under one roof at the Pre K-8 building, with the district benefitting from a smaller staff and larger classrooms, saving money while providing students with a safer, more effective learning environment.

Along with a better learning environment, the new proposed plans would have accounted for more efficient busing and transportation, eliminating shuttle routes between Auburn Elementary and Dowds Elementary, with students spending less time boarding and leaving their transports. The Board of Education offices would have moved to the current middle school offices, with Auburn, Central, and Dowds facilities either being demolished or sold as-is.

With the failed bond issue, Shelby schools will have to look at other options for improving the school district.
