MANSFIELD, OH - The Mansfield Barber Expo - Battle In The Yard is fast approaching. The first edition of the event will take place on November 18th at the historic Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield and will have something for everyone: not just barbers or cosmetologists.

The Expo was founded by two local barbers, Damien Beauford and Sarah Leonhardt, both of whom are employed at Barberz Inc. on Park Avenue West. The duo wanted to bring an event like this to Richland County and do something that would help their industry but also make something the community would enjoy. They're also using their platform to give back, sponsoring prizes for battles at the event but also giving scholarships for selected and interviewed Barber College students across Ohio. They say they chose the Ohio State Reformatory because there is nothing like it anywhere else.

The event is split into two parts. The first part takes place on Sunday morning starting at 9:00 A.M. and is more geared towards people who work with hair. It features classes taught and administered by world-renowned barbers including barbering mogul Jay Majors, L'Oreal sponsored barber Edouard Clipperhand out of Canada, Hanzo and Paul Mitchell sponsored Trevor Moots from Florida, Zanesville Ohio based barbershop owner Prince Fields and Connecticut based Maestro sponsored Andy Mendoza.

After the educational portion is over, the doors open to the general public at 2:00 P.M. and the battles begin. With a DJ spinning music and setting the mood and a performance by Mansfield's own Taj Torrance, battles will take place featuring different categories of head to head barber challenges. Categories include 23 & Under, Freestyle, Cleanest Fade or Taper, Traditional, and Tag Team Fade & Design. Damien says fans are going to be blown away during the challenges. "You're going to see things you didn't think were possible to do with hair!"

Sarah says the event is a great new way to network for hair professionals from across the industry, keep their skills honed and catch up with new trends and techniques in the industry and for the general public, it's going to be a blast.

Tickets and more information can be found at this link. A Ticket to the show includes a free self-guided tour of the Reformatory. Damien and Sarah plan to grow the event year after year and they are hopeful that next year, a selection of barbers and stylists will be available to cut hair for folks who feel so inclined, but this year's event is a great place to network and meet your next barber.
