RICHLAND COUNTY, OH - Citizens within and surrounding the Richland County area have been receiving phone calls from a scammer identifying themselves as a law enforcement officer from the Richland County Sheriff's Office.

So far the sheriff's office has received eight reports of these scam phone calls. The scammer uses a spoofing method to make the call appear to come from the sheriff's office dispatch. They tell their targets that there is a warrant out for them and that the citizen needs to go get money cards and meet them at a set location in order to dismiss the warrant.

The sheriff's office will never ask citizens for money over the phone, and all financial transactions are handled at the sheriff's office. Phone scams like these are common, and anyone who receives one should hang up and ignore it.
