Probe Underway Into Richland County Jail Inmate's Death

MANSFIELD - The death of a Richland County Jail inmate is under investigation

The Richland County Sheriff's Office issued a press release reporting an inmate notified corrections staff something was wrong with inmate Joseph Estill Breeze around 11 a.m. Saturday.

Correctional and medical staff administered medical care immediately as well as

notifying the Mansfield Fire Department who responded within minutes.

Breeze was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office was notified and an autopsy will be conducted.

At this time it’s unknown what the cause of death is and the Sheriff’s Office will not speculate.

The inmate was incarcerated in the Richland County Jail on August 27, on a felony warrant for the charge of probation violation out of Richland County Common Pleas Court.

The Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation into the inmate’s death.
