BUCYRUS, OH - Bucyrus student groups will be partnering with the Salvation Army for a food drive in early December.

The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Club, the Bucyrus High School, and Middle School student councils met and discussed how to help needy families for Christmas during a club meeting.

"This project was the result of a student-led discussion of how to help their own community at a regular FCCLA Club meeting," Kaylene Love, the High School Student Council Advisor, explained. "FCCLA felt that by asking the student councils to help more, excitement could be generated and therefore ore items would be donated.

The food drive will begin on December 3rd and run through December 14th.

Students can bring their food items to the commons, and there will be a competition among high school classes to see who can bring the most items. All food staples are welcome, however, all the baskets will be assembled to include mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, vegetables, cake mixes, and frosting.

Community members are also invited to donate during the food drive. Food collection barrels will be set up in each office at the Secondary Building of Bucyrus City Schools.

On December 7th, FCCLA Club and student council members will assist the Salvation Army by assembling baskets. A ham will be added to each basket by the Salvation Army.

A projected goal has been set at helping 1,000 people this Christmas season.
