Mansfield Police Purchase Van For Police Athletic League

MANSFIELD, OH - The Mansfield Police Department announced on Facebook the purchase of a van for Youth Director and Police Athletic League Coordinator Ginger Antrican. 

The van is a 2016 Chevy 3,500 Express passenger van. 

The Police Athletic League (PAL) aims to prevent juvenile crime by developing strong relationships with police officers through events and activities. 

The purchase of the vehicle was a surprise to Antrican, who has been requesting the vehicle for the past five years, according to Mansfield Police Cheif Ken Coontz. 

The van will replace a 20-year-old van used by PAL. The previous van was a 1998 Dodge Van.

The Mansfield Division of Police PAL program is primarily funded by grant support. The Program collaborates with Friendly House, Community Action for Capable Youth, Ocie Hill Community Center, County Area Y, United Way, and more. 

PAL activities are focused during the high youth delinquency periods of 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. 

2,500 youth have participated in PAL activities, which include baseball, basketball, boxing, football, leadership club, and more. 

The PAL study centers and computer labs are equipped with educational software, homework assistance, and reading skill programs.
