MANSFIELD, OH - The City of Mansfield has advised residents that a strong odor (reportedly smelling like gas) may be present within the city.

Mayor Tim Theaker and Safety Service Director Lori Cope have announced that The Kokosing Materials Inc. asphalt terminal on Oak Street is currently in the process of filling their tanks for winter storage. A strong odor of "gas or "sewer gas" is being reported throughout the city due to the combination of this process and extreme weather conditions.

In a statement released by the City of Mansfield, city officials do not believe there is a cause for health concern. The Mansfield Fire Department has investigated many calls related to reports of strange odors.

The dissipation of the odor is dependant upon the weather conditions, according to the statement.

The City further states that it will be monitoring the situation and will keep the public up to date.
