MANSFIELD, OH - Mansfield City Schools' Spanish Immersion School is one of only three schools in the state to have earned dual recognition as a School of Promise, and a High Performing School of Honor for the 2017-2018 school year.

The Spanish Immersion School has received these honors in the past, but never both in the same year. It has also been designated a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

The recognitions, awarded by the Ohio Department of Education, are based on a number of academic achievements, including closing the learning gap among students who are economically disadvantaged, those with disabilities, and racial or ethnic groups.

"These recognitions from the Ohio Department of Education are a testament to the hard work that our overall staff, students and parents put into student success," said Principal Gabe Costa. "There is an accountability at home for our students, an emphasis on the need to take school seriously. That involvement by parents is very important."

The school has been recognized by Spain as an International Spanish Academy, and currently boasts an enrollment of 251 students from kindergarten to eighth grade.
