The aviation section is comprised of 16 uniformed flight crew personnel members, three helicopters, and 14 airplanes. Every day troopers are in the air for traffic enforcement, aerial photography, surveillance, and ground assistance, among a myriad of other tasks that help keep Ohio safe.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol posted pictures on their Facebook page of an event where troopers came together to celebrate 70 years of service from the air. The post was made with the following caption:

Today, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Aviation Section celebrates 70 years of service. The Divisions first aircraft, a model 35 Beechcraft Bonanza was utilized for transportation, aerial photography, errands of mercy, and aircraft law enforcement. Since the inception of the unit, troopers have flown thousands of missions and developed lasting relationships with local, state and federal partners. These missions have located missing individuals, brought fugitives to justice, provided aerial support during critical incidents and traffic safety from the air in conjunction with ground units to promote safety on roadways. #saferohio
