APPLE CREEK, OH - The Ohio Highway Patrol is currently investigating a plane crash in Wayne County. The crash occurred near the intersections of Hackett Road and Carr Road in Sugar Creek Township.

Authorities say the Douglas DC3TP-model plane left the nearby airfield before noon. Early investigations found that the plane was suffering from engine issues, which may have contributed to the plane crashing. The plane struck utility poles and trees before crashing in a yard next to a residence, killing both men inside.

55-year-old pilot Brian L. Stoltzfus and 56-year-old co-pilot Curtis R. Wilkinson were pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner's Office.

Among those responding to the accident were the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Crash Reconstruction Unit and Aviation Section, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Apple Creek and Kidron Fire Departments, and the Apple Creek Police Department.
