MANSFIELD, OH - The United Way of Richland County met with representatives from local food pantries Friday afternoon to distribute funding that will assist them in feeding the needy in the community.

The press conference began at 1:00 PM at the United Way of Richland County's office on North Park Street in Mansfield. Dan Varn, Executive Director of the United Way of Richland County, acknowledged the incredible work done by food pantries and thanked all those who contributed to the grant funding. One of those organizations that provided assistance was Richland Bank. According to Richland Bank's Stephanie Blanchard, associates were able to raise $1,605 over the course of two weeks. Richland Bank will be matching 50% of that $1,605.

Funding like this goes a long way for food pantries according to Janet Grubaugh, the director of the Lucas Area Food Pantry. "It's absolutely amazing to have organizations help us like this, and the United Way, we can't thank them enough," Grubaugh said. The pantry is extremely important to her and her husband, Bill, due to the circumstances Bill grew up under. Bill grew up as one of ten kids, and his father was injured while working on an electric line. His injury limited him to only part-time jobs until he died at the young age of 52. After his death, the kids were split up and sent to different homes. "They sometimes didn't have shoes... they had milk and bread to eat... Bill feels like if there were pantries back then, and the help that's available now, that wouldn't happen... so the pantry is very, very important to us, and the people who help us, like the United Way has, is very special to us."

Janet and Bill Grubaugh are just two of the food pantry representatives that received a check. That funding will allow them to have food readily available for those in need in their communities.
