Driver Flees Accident After Causing Truck To Overturn

MANSFIELD, OH - Emergency crews responded to the area of 259 South Main Street on Friday night for a report of a car on fire and a box truck that had rolled over.

According to Mansfield Police Officers at the scene, a Dodge Durango was headed eastbound in an alley from Lexington Avenue at a high rate of speed towards South Main Street. As it traveled, the Durango ran a stop sign at the end of the alley and struck the side of a box truck. After coming to a rest, the Durango was seen with smoke billowing from the hood, but the danger was dealt with promptly by responders from Mansfield Fire Department.

The box truck rolled onto its side, blocking South Main Street completely. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicles moving "very fast," with estimated speeds of 50-60 miles per hour.

The driver of the Dodge Durango fled before police arrived. The driver of the box truck reported no injuries at the scene. The incident is still under investigation.
